Five candidates, all from inside Louisiana, have applied to be Lafayette’s next police chief, the eighth in four years. The job came open after Chief Judith Estorge resigned earlier this year. These are the candidates who applied in time for the Aug. 9 deadline, according to The Acadiana Advocate:
- Paul Trouard, current LPD interim chief
- Dorian Brabham, LPD sergeant
- Dana Coleman, investigator for the Louisiana attorney general and former Houma police chief
- Herbert Dobler, attorney formerly with St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s office
- LeJon Roberts, captain for the New Orleans Police Department

There is optimism the job opening at chief is an opportunity to improve LPD while pay raises help the agency fill vacancies.
Change has been the only constant in LPD’s leadership dating to early 2020. Interim chiefs have led the department for long stretches. This is the second consecutive search that looked national but failed to draw candidates outside of Louisiana.
