Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

John Trahan: My name is John Trahan Jr. candidate for Lafayette City Marshal #94 on the ballot. I am a brother, a husband, a father, a veteran, a small business owner, and a man of God. I was born and raised in Lafayette where I still reside with my wife and our three kids. Loyalty, commitment and life experiences, have condition me to be an advocate for fairness in law enforcement.

I am a retired Louisiana State Trooper and a former Lafayette Sheriff’s Deputy with over 31 plus years of law enforcement experience. My career has been an interesting and educational journey. As Vice President of my State Police academy class I was trained by the best of the best. It became obvious because within a year, I excelled as a trooper and becoming a field training officer. I continued on that path and became a trainer/ instructor on the national, federal, state and local levels.

As an instructor for the Louisiana State Police, El Paso Intelligence Center, El Paso Texas and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association Washington, DC. I trained officers across the United States and Canada. I was recognized as a national instructor of the year and a national officer year.

Driven by my faith and compassion to make our community a better place to live, I implemented the training and networking experiences to the local agencies. I was also blessed by training our local officers as an instructor for the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association. I have served on specialized task forces to include New Orleans Mardi Gras details, Super Bowl security detail for the after 911, NBA All-star security detail, Democratic Governor’s Convention details and Republicans Governor’s Detail heled New Orleans, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and a serial killer task force in Baton Rouge just to name a few.

I am United State Army Veteran who served in the first Gulf War Desert Storm. I have been honored to serve my country and community since the age of 18. As your next Marshal, John Trahan Jr. #94 on the ballot, I will bring pride, purpose and professionalism back to our Marshals office.

Q: Can you tell us one initiative or change you’d like to introduce as city marshal?

John Trahan: I would like to bring transparency and education to the Lafayette City Marshal’s Office. Be transparent to the citizens as what is the role of a Marshal Office and how the position effects the community. I would also bring education on how to navigate the court process with a concentration in lowering stress or the negative connotation one may perceive when having to attend court.
