Erica Melancon Fox

Erica Melancon Fox is the founder of Maison Creole de Freetown, Lafayette’s first African American history and cultural museum. It is also home to Attakapas Collective, a collaborative gift shop featuring products made by artisans of color. She is a local griot, community advocate and professional singer with 40-plus commercial records. She is the recipient of several recognitions and awards including the 2018 Big Easy Award, 2022 Grammy consideration for “Best R&B Song” and Iberia Medical Center 2022 Women Making a Difference honor. Currently, she and her team have developed a digital sound lab at Maison Freetown to document the stories and history of local citizens as told in their own voices.
