Grambling State University President Rick Gallot was expected to take over as the University of Louisiana System president Jan. 1. But with only a few days remaining in the year, the UL System board has not extended him a contract offer.
Gov.-elect Jeff Landry indicated, in an interview with reporters Wednesday, he wants to talk to both the board and Gallot before the deal is finalized.

Currently, 12.5% of all emergency room visits are due to respiratory viruses in Louisiana. Flu accounts for 8%, with respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, COVID, adenovirus and rhinovirus making up most of the rest. The national rate for ER visits is about half that, at 4% for influenza-like illnesses, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.
