Biden issues emergency declaration for Francine

The Biden administration approved an emergency declaration as Hurricane Francine moves toward Louisiana. Designated Sept. 10, the declaration enables a coordinated federal disaster responses through FEMA and triggers recovery aid for affected parishes.

Lafayette is among the parishes now eligible for federal funding to support recovery and direct costs for sheltering. FEMA will cover 75% of those costs.

Francine has shifted eastward, limiting exposure to tropical winds, but Lafayette remains in the path of flooding rains.
