Lafayette posts strong sales tax receipts in May

Looking under LCG's hood

Taxable sales in Lafayette Parish topped $714 million in May, the strongest May on record. So far this year, total receipts hit $3.5 billion.

To date, Lafayette Parish municipalities posted increases across the board:

  • Lafayette – 0.6%
  • Broussard – 0.8%
  • Carencro – 5.6%
  • Duson – 8.3%
  • Scott – 0.9%
  • Youngsville – 2.0%

Sales tax revenue projections influence the budgeting outlook for Lafayette Consolidated Government. Price inflation has pushed collections high, a boon for local governments on the revenue side. On the flip side, government costs have gone up.

LCG’s annual budget process kicks off this week with a special joint meeting called Tuesday to introduce the budget.
