Lafayette schools resume Friday, post-Francine

Classes and school athletics will resume as normal Friday in Lafayette public schools, school system officials announced. Schools closed early Tuesday and remained closed through Thursday as Hurricane Francine approached Louisiana.

Campuses suffered no meaningful damage after the storm landed well east of Acadiana, delivering little rain and relatively tame winds.

Elsewhere in Louisiana, hundreds of thousands are without power. The storm made landfall near Morgan City at Category 2 strength, dumping severe rain in New Orleans and other parts of southeast Louisiana.
