Lafayette schools to close for Francine

Lafayette Parish School System will close schools early Tuesday and keep them closed through Thursday, as Tropical Storm Francine hastens toward the Gulf Coast

All afternoon activities, such as after-school care, tutoring, sporting events, including practices and extracurricular activities, are canceled Tuesday and Wednesday.

LPSS staff will evaluate the campuses on Thursday to determine whether after school activities can resume.

The school system outlined the early dismissal schedule:

10:30 a.m. Dismissal

High Schools, including:

  • David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy
  • Lerosen Preparatory School

NOTE: All high school extracurricular and athletic activities must be complete and campuses clear by 12:30 p.m.

11:15 a.m. Dismissal

All Elementary Schools, excluding

  • J. Wallace James Elementary School
  • Truman Early Childhood Education Center
  • Milton Elementary / Middle School
  • Early College Academy (ECA) – no busses running Tuesday

12:00 p.m. Dismissal

All Middle Schools, including the following Elementary Schools

  • J. Wallace James Elementary School
  • Truman Early Childhood Education Center

Other Campuses

  • Edward J. Sam Accelerated School — the second session is canceled Tuesday
  • W. D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center – students attending the second half of the day will stay at their base school

Transportation

Buses will be sent to the schools at the dismissal times listed above to return students home.

Parents should pick up students who are car riders.
