LCG pauses key penalty in recycling tag program

After some pushback from City Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux, LCG is backing off of a key penalty in a compliance program designed to clean up Lafayette’s recycling program.

As planned, residents would receive warning tags on their recycling bins when trash and other contaminants are found in the containers. After three strikes, residents would have their recycling bins removed.

Boudreaux took issue with that punishment during this week’s City Council meeting, arguing that it put too great a “burden on the residents.”

Instead, LCG will move forward with the tag system but delay the punishment portion. Residents will not lose their cans after three warnings.
