One passenger died when a plane crashed onto the golf course at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette shortly after takeoff Thursday morning.
Wreckage of the plane, described by authorities as a “small, private” aircraft, smoldered on a fairway as onlookers in golf carts approached the crash, according to video footage circulating on social media.
Lafayette Fire Department is investigating the crash. Lafayette Consolidated Government confirmed that an “occupant” died in the crash, in a press release issued late Thursday. The crash occurred shortly before noon.
