Housing

What changes, if any, would you pursue to Lafayette’s Development Code?

Zoning policies can help to facilitate the development of lower-cost housing such as single -family dwelling units or manufactured homes . I would seek to re- structure our zoning codes so as to encourage the development of affordable housing throughout most of the city.

Would you support using public funds for housing initiatives? Why or why not?

I would definitely support the use of public funds, if necessary, as a subsidy for housing. It’s imperative that we encourage and educate young people about the importance of home ownership. Subsidizing should only be for a fixed term thereby encouraging homeowners to become self- sufficient.

Quality of Life

What role should local government should play in economic development and the job market?

Government should serve as the catalyst for economic development in the area it governs. Well paying jobs are one of the reasons young people would be enticed to not only remain in Lafayette , but also, move to Lafayette.

Should Lafayette spend public dollars to finance quality of life programs and to what extent?

Just like the proposed indoor facility Lafayette is considering developing, it’s important for government to invest public dollars in quality of life infrastructure. Those type attractions can bring tax dollars from across the country in motels, restaurants, and other industries vital to Lafayette’s economy.

Flooding

Would you support stricter development standards to limit flood risk related to new construction?

Higher costs are minimalized when residents are free from worry about potential and actual flooding. The costs of rebuilding are astronomical compared to an investment in prevention.

How would you prioritize spending on stormwater management and infrastructure in the future?

We can never spend enough on drainage infrastructure because that would attract outsiders contemplating moving to Lafayette. Think of it as an investment in the future of this city. Expansion benefits all.
