Local and state officials are beginning to treat summer heat like hurricanes: a deadly and seasonal threat.
Crews worked restore power overnight, Lafayette Consolidated Government officials reported Tuesday morning, after high winds battered Lafayette.
Around 7,500 homes lost power during the storm; 1,900 remain without power, per an LCG press release.
Temperatures are already trending above average this year. The first true heat wave moved through the state this week lifting daytime highs into the 90s. And forecasters expect the coming months to follow suit.

The bill repeals Louisiana’s unique three-year rule, which prohibits insurance companies from raising deductibles and canceling or not renewing homeowner policies in effect for more than three years.
