A new property tax for dedicated fire protection in unincorporated Lafayette Parish is on the Dec. 8 ballot.
Proponents argue the money is needed to prevent fire ratings from sliding, potentially increasing the cost of insurance for property owners outside of city limits. Opponents say it’s yet another unnecessary and burdensome tax.
What it all comes down to is cost. Use the Civi Millage Calculator to find out how much the tax will cost you in real dollars, if you live or own property outside the city.
