How are you voting? Lafayette Ballot Proposition — Renewing a property tax supporting Lafayette school facilities

Ballot propositions are as democratic as it gets. Often overlooked, they offer a chance for voters to set policies directly. This year, Lafayette Parish voters have three propositions to vote on. You can check out our cheat sheet guide to all seven here.

Renewing property tax supporting public school facilities — This is one several dedicated tax streams that supports the school system. Up for another 10-year renewal, this property tax helps pay for maintenance, improvements and new construction of public school buildings. It generates around $11.7 million annually. Unspent funds are saved for planned construction projections like building a new Lafayette High School.
