Special Joint Meeting
Vote to override the ARPA veto. At the last joint council meeting, the City and Parish Council voted 9-0 to amend Mayor-President Josh Guillory’s proposed ARPA budget to zero out funding for all of its projects other than $360,000 to hire consultants. Since then, Guillory used his line item veto power to restore some projects. Both councils have to vote 4-1 to override his veto. Note that unlike past joint council meetings, which normally take place in between the Parish and City Council meetings, this one is scheduled for 4:25pm prior to the Parish Council’s meeting.
Parish Council
No items Parish-only up for final adoption
City Council
Report
Emergency funds and dredging. Councilmember Liz Hebert has requested this report on the status of emergency funds that the City Council appropriated for drainage earlier this summer.
Final Adoption
Localized Flood Mitigation Project: Acadiana Woods Subdivision. If approved this ordinance would authorize the Mayor-President to acquire land for this detention pond through expropriation if need be. The city is currently being sued by property owners whose land was expropriated for the Lake Farm Road Detention Pond. The location for this detention pond will be near the Acadiana Mall between Canberra Road and Rosedown Lane. This project may also entail elevating structures in this area.
