Lafayette 101: What’s a Conditional Use Permit? In 2017 LCG ended a 13-year moratorium on new bars Downtown. Now new bars can apply through a public process to secure a Conditional Use Permit that allows them to operate Downtown. Applying for one starts at LCG’s Development and Planning Department. It then goes through a hearing with the City Zoning Commission. And finally it is considered by the City Council.

Introduction
IGA with Duson for infrastructure maintenance. This ordinance would authorize the mayor-president to enter an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Duson for minor road and drainage maintenance improvements. In it, LCG will agree to complete projects under $40,000, and Duson will reimburse for expenses.

Resolutions
Fightinville Fresh. This resolution requests the State Office of Public Health and the Lafayette Parish Health Unit to recognize the farm stand as a state fair and festival. Fightingville Fresh is a neighborhood farmer’s market located at 315 W. Simcoe St. and is open Tuesdays 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Mental health and wellness program for police. This resolution authorizes the seeking of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for law enforcement mental health and wellness programs.

Old bars/lounges become new again. This ordinance will approve Conditional Use Permits to operate a bar/lounge at 203 Jefferson St. and at 110 East Cypress St. in the old Dat Dog location. This ordinance will approve a CUP to operate a bar/lounge for the new owners of Artmosphere.
Naming the old city hall after Phil Lank. This ordinance would name the old city hall at 735 Jefferson St. in honor of Phillip Lank. Lank was a longtime community advocate, former community development director and co-founder of Festival International who died in January.
Introduction
Repealing panhandling laws. This ordinance will repeal in its entirety Lafayette’s law against “Begging and Soliciting Money” and will also repeal a portion of the criminal mischief ordinance. LCG is currently getting sued in federal court over panhandlers’ First Amendment right to ask people for help.

Final Adoption
New rules for food trucks, take two. This ordinance is the second attempt to adopt new rules. An earlier version was tabled to get more input from food truck vendors. This revision increases permit costs from $200 to $300, instead of $400 as originally planned, and would credit vendors who have already purchased permits.
