Conversation: Is Lafayette affordable?

Lafayette is often sold as a town with a low cost of living. Is that really true?

Affordable housing is integral to the next generation of hub citizens. We’ve heard that loud and clear in our Next Wave surveys and at the Should I Stay or Should I Go live journalism event we held this month.

This isn’t news. Studies on Lafayette’s rental prices suggest it isn’t so cheap. Housing is the key concern in the ongoing insurance crisis and was declared “the single greatest concern” for Louisiana back in 2021. Plus there continues to be a lack of resources for Lafayette’s citizens experiencing homelessness. It’s clear that something needs to change.

We want to hear your experience. Is Lafayette an affordable place for you to live?
