The cost of living is rising in Lafayette. And that’s putting real pressure on the next wave of Hub Citizens. But cost covers only half the equation. Income is the other part.

We’ve heard from many young voters who say it’s getting difficult to find a job that pays a living wage. Others don’t see a career for them in Lafayette, which means they’re likely to look for opportunities elsewhere. Take Layna Juneau, 26:

“I actually left Lafayette when I was 17 to attend college in New Orleans. I am 26 now. I attempted to return once I graduated college at 21. I had major difficulties finding a job especially in a creative setting.”

Finding a job that’s right for them is a key reason young people leave Lafayette.
