Conversation: Is Lafayette better off since the 2016 flood?

Five years later, we still don’t have a name for the flood that changed everything. Most just call it by the year: 2016.

Since then, flooding has become the defining political issue in Lafayette Parish and most of southern Louisiana.

When we poll readers about their top priorities for any budget, drainage is always on top. That priority is reflected in how Lafayette has crafted budgets over the last five years. Tens of millions have been spent already, and we can expect to spend tens of millions more.

It’s clear most locals think stormwater management is our most pressing need. But do you think we’re on the right track? Is Lafayette tackling rising waters the right way?

Tell us what you think on the questionnaire below. We’ll publish some of the conversation in our newsletter.
